The Golf Course Superintendents Affiliation of America (GCSAA) has created the Larry Powell Scholarship, administered by the GCSAA Basis. The Powell Scholarship acknowledges college students in underserved populations searching for a profession in golf course and turfgrass administration.
The scholarship is known as in honor of Larry Powell, a 48-year GCSAA member and golf course superintendent at Clearview Golf Course in Canton, Ohio. Powell’s father, Invoice, opened Clearview Golf Membership in 1948. The built-in course was the primary and solely course to be designed, constructed and owned by an African American. Each Invoice and Larry Powell are members of the Nationwide Black Golf Corridor of Fame, alongside Larry’s sister, Renee, who was the second African American participant in LPGA historical past, and was awarded GCSAA’s Outdated Tom Morris Award in 2019.
“Larry Powell has served and superior his household’s legacy at Clearview Golf Membership as superintendent for over 40 years,” Evans mentioned. “He’s a humble chief who has formed and impacted the lives of many.
